Cultural Heritage

Rennes’ heritage is a transparent ode to the past, as illustrated by its medieval ruins, its Portes Mordelaises arches and city gates, its fortifications and ramparts, its traditional half-timbered Renaissance-era houses, and the plethora of religious buildings you’ll see during your time here, including the Saint-Pierre cathedral, the Saint-Melaine church and the Jacobin Convent. Another key monument that’s open for guided tours throughout the year is the beautifully-restored Parlement of Brittany. Other remnants of Rennes’ heritage include the historic old town and its cobbled streets, as well as contemporary buildings designed by leading architects: Jean Nouvel, Christian de Portzamparc, Georges Maillols, and more. Prepare to witness a smorgasbord of different architectural styles from across the eras.
